  • The Ugly Little Boy by Isaac Asimov & Robert Silverberg
One of a handful of novelizations of his more notable short stories done "in collaboration" near the end of his life, this is Asimov's self-professed only attempt to write a tear-jerker. Fans generally agree that he succeeded with the tale of a woman hired by a time-travel research concern to take care of a Neanderthal boy whom they have plucked from the past and intend to send back after studying him. The book adds scenes set in the Ice Age.
