  • The Seventh Scroll by Wilbur Smith
OK- it isn't exactly Ancient History, however it is the sequel for River God also by Wilbur Smith. It takes place in contemporary times. It is the story of two people - one an archaeologist, the other a rich englishmen - who go on a search for a lost Egyptian tomb, using the novel River God as their guide. Author's note at the end states that this is a true story.

  • Sunbird by Wilbur Smith
'Sunbird' is about a Phonecian civilisation which escapes from the depradations of Rome to Southern Africa. They successfully establish themselves there for 500 years, when they are conquered by the local tribes. The book also deals with the excavation of the site in Botswana. It's mind-bending - read it!

  • Warlock: A Novel of Ancient Egypt by Wilbur Smith
This is a continuation of Taita'a life story. He has lived to see the birth of Lostris's grandson, and this book is about how Egpyt becomes re-united agian. Author's note this time states that Taita is a figment of his imagination and not real. A great read, seems that good old Taita will never die!
