Chapter Summary of The Plains of Passage

1. Meet Rutan and Thurie of the Mamutoi Falcon Camp who first believed they were spirits.
2. After a difficult river crossing, they travel through tall grass.
3. Watch a herd of wooly mammoths, then come to an empty Mamutoi earthlodge.
4. Make "Wolf Repellent".
5. Dream about Cave at Clan gathering, then Creb at mouth of ancient cave.
6. They see a herd of onagers and a flying squirrel.
7. Dream of Creb climbing rocky wall and telling her to hurry. There is a cave with a large rock near the entrance and a waterfall nearby. Creb commands her to get out. Ayla insists on leaving camping area during heavy storm.
8. They arrive at an earthlodge camp, currently unoccupied.
9. Killed aurochs in spite of Wolf. Ayla wants to train him, but Jondalar is wary. Work on bowl boat.
10. Very wide and deep river crossing. Jondalar was separated, but found by Wolf. They ride into a cloud of locusts.
11. Come to a camp where everyone was hiding from them. They reach the point where Ayla turns from the Clan and Durc to the West. They take the boat to a floating reed island. Creb was trying to tell Ayla something in a dream.
12. They travel through the delta region.
13. People in river boat would not stop.
14. Dream of Creb in front of small cave. He told her she could not stay, that she had to find where she belonged. He pointed to another cave with a boulder above, then he left. They meet Darvo of the Sharamudoi.
15. Ayla begins working on Roshario's broken arm.
16. The re-set arm appears to be better.
17. When Dolando discovers Ayla was raised by Flatheads, he erupts in a rage.
18. Ayla finds plants with the root used in the Mog-Urs' Ceremony. The Sharamudoi invite her to stay.
19. Serenio had gone to another camp and nobody knew if she was pregnant. The camp gives Ayla gifts, then they leave.
20. Dream of a wolf turning into Durc and a bear that became Creb blocking her way to Durc. Then Creb pointed behind her to a cave in a cliff and then they were gone. Wolf was gone all night and in the morning, Ayla would not leave until she found him. They reached the Sister River after several days of rain. They found an abandoned building to use to keep dry.
21. Jondalar awoke Ayla during the night and said they had to cross the River.
22. They crossed the River, but Ayla was nearly unconscious. She wanted to find Wolf.
23. They came across a herd of horses led by a white stallion & see Jeren, of the Hadumai.
24. Dream of Creb motioning her to hurry. There were horses and Creb was warning her. Then she woke to find Whinney gone.
25. They packed minimal gear and left to find the horse. They got caught in a stampede of the herd. Now Jondalar was missing and new footprints were seen.
26. Jondalar woke to find himself tied and had a head injury. He was with the S'Armunai, led by Attaroa.
27. Jondalar is held with the other men, while Ayla scouts the camp.
28. The men learn how to make tools and weapons. Jondalar does not cooperate with Attaroa and is to be used for target practice.
29. Jondalar and Ayla stay at their camp. They plan to release the men.
30. S'Armuna tells Attaroa's story of mate, Brugar.
31. Ayla plans how to return the camp to normal.
32. Feast held in camp. Jondalar and Ayla taken prisoner.
33. Attaroa killed and men escape with weapons. Ayla teaches them how to gather food. She re-set Doban's leg. They saw clay fired. They leave.
34. They return to the camp where Whinney left. After repacking, they head West.
35. Meet Laduni of the Losadunai. They get a supply of burning stones. Plan a Ceremony.
36. Purification of Madenia. Solandia teaches Ayla how to make soap.
37. Dream of a meadow with a river. Creb motioned for her to follow. They came to a rocky wall with a strange formation at the top. He told her to hurry, but she could never catch up. There was ice between them. Jondalar has private ceremony in which he asks that Ayla bear a child, especially of his spirit. They are warned of the Malaise.
38. Mother Festival. The next day they leave.
39. Encounter with Charoli and his band.
40. Ayla sets Guban's leg and they discuss problems with Charoli and what was being planned.
41. They continue to the glacier, then to the top.
42. A blizzard begins on the glacier. They get off the glacier.
43. They get to Dalanar's cave and the Lanzadonii. Echozar tells them about his mother's death curse.
44. Dalanar announced the mating of Echozar with Joplaya. Dream of a cave near hazelnut brush. Creb was telling her to follow, that they could be there before dark.
